Skipton Business Finance has kicked off a charity of the year partnership with Children Today, with a bake sale at its head office in Skipton.

The asset-based lender sold hundreds of cakes, brownies and blondies baked by staff from Skipton Business Finance, raising £500 for Children Today.

Skipton Business Finance chose to support Children Today after hearing about the amazing work the charity is doing on radio, following the launch of a fundraising appeal for teenager, Charlie Hall, from Scarborough.

The organisation made a £1,200 donation towards the appeal for a specialist seating system for Charlie who has cerebral palsy.

Ed Carney, head of marketing at Skipton Business Finance explains:

“I’ve got children myself and when I heard Charlie’s story on the radio it really resonated with me, so I reached out to Children Today to see how we could help. It’s great to know that our donation has helped him reach his target and his new chair should be arriving soon.

“We’re really looking forward to working with the team Children Today throughout 2023 to help even more youngsters. Small charities, like Children Today, are so often overlooked so we specifically wanted to help a smaller charity, because we know the work they do is vital.”

Sophie Brown, media and communications manager at Skipton Business Finance, who organised the bake sale, added:

“We’re really excited to have launched our charity of the year partnership with Children Today. This is the first of several fundraising events and activities that we’re planning – from skydives to walking challenges – and it’s been a resounding success. Thanks to everyone who baked, bought a treat or donated!”

The funds raised from the event will go towards helping fund vital adapted equipment, such as mobility equipment and sensory items, for disabled children and young adults across the UK.

Fiona Harris-Hunt, regional fundraiser at Children Today, says:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Skipton Business Finance on an exciting programme of fundraising events throughout 2023. As a small charity support from organisations like Skipton Business Finance means the world to us at Children Today and to the children and families we support.

“The money raised will go towards funding life-changing equipment like adapted trikes, which enable disabled children to be a part of family days out or sensory equipment, that can help children with Autism manage their sensory needs better. The impact of these things really are life-changing, not just for the children but often their whole family.”
